Top Five Division I College Wrestlers from California

Josh Hokit of Fresno State, Junior, 197lbs

The two-sport athlete has been on fire as of late! He is currently on a six-match winning streak and 13-2 in his last 15 matches. Just Days after participating on the Las Vegas Bowl versus Boise State, Hokit, put on his singlet and competed at Reno TOC where he placed sixth in a loaded weight class. A week later, Hokit, competed at the Midlands Open and took seventh. Since then, Hokit has upset two-time All-American Willie Miklus (Iowa State) and two-time NCAA qualifier Tanner Orndorff (Utah Valley). Hokit is currently ranked # 13 by FloWrestling and Intermat, and # 15 by The Open Mat.

Khristian Olivas of Fresno State, Junior, 149lbs

The NCAA qualifier is currently 17-8 on the season competing at 149-pounds. During the 2017-18 season, Olivas became the first Fresno State wrestler to win a match at the NCAA Championships since 2006. He was triumphant in placing seventh at the Midlands Open where he defeated NCAA qualifiers Henry Pohlmeyer (South Dakota State) and Josh Maruca (Arizona State). He is currently in a four-match winning streak and 8-2 in his last ten matches with 11 contested bouts being win via bonus points. Olivas is ranked # 16 by The Open Mat, # 17 by Intermat, and # 18 by FloWrestling.

Christian Pagdilao of Arizona State, Senior, 157lbs

2015 Pac-12 Champion, Christian Pagdilao, currently holds an 18-8 record with seven of the wins coming via bonus points. He has been stable for Arizona State by winning the 48th Annual Bison Open and the Cougar Classic by defeating NCAA qualifier Lucas Weiland (Army West Point), 2-0. His most recent win came on Saturday where he defeated nationally ranked wrestler Dominik Mandarino of Stanford, 11-9. A very discipline wrestler, Pagdilao should be one of the favorites in early March to capture a second Pac-12 title and attempt to garner All-American status for the first time in his career. Pagdilao is ranked # 15 by FloWrestling, # 17 by Intermat, and # 18 by The Open Mat.

Zahid Valencia of Arizona State, Junior

Valencia is one of the most proficient wrestlers in the college scene at any level. With a 23-1 record on the season and 92-2 overall, Valencia has been a bonus machine for Arizona State. This season, he was triumphant in claiming the 48th Annual Bison Open and Cougar Classic by winning all matches via bonus points. He is on a 14-match streak with his lone loss of the season being to Mark Hall 4-0 during the second week of December. Valencia is 12-1 in duals and has won 19 of his 23 matches via bonus points. Valencia is currently ranked # 2 in the county by FloWrestler, Intermat, and The Open Mat.

Evan Wick of Wisconsin, Sophomore

The redshirt sophomore had a season to remember as a freshman as he wrestled his way to All-American honors by placing third at nationals. This season, he has been wrestling even better with a 23-1 record. His lone loss was a 4-3 thriller to Alex Marinelli of Iowa, a wrestler he major decision (16-3) in the consolation semifinal round at nationals. Since his lost, Wick has won nine straight matches. He was successful in claiming titles at the Cyclone Open, SIEU Invitational, and second at Midlands. He is currently ranked # 3 in the country by FloWrestling, Intermat, and The Open Mat.
