The Scoop
This dual meet could become a lopsided victory for the Titans as it has too much power. Especially, in the lower weights from 106 to 138. Poway boosts the top-rated wrestler in the country at 106-pounds in Andre Gonzales; Gonzales was triumphant last summer in claiming double titles at Fargo. Because of its overwhelming depth and outstanding balance, we could see Poway win many of their matches via bonus points. 12 Titans are ranked in the latest state rankings while Servite only has 6. As much as it pains me to say this, barring a total Poway collapse this really should not be competitive. Both schools are to be commended for keeping this must-happen meeting on the slate despite Servite being a better individual team than a dual-meet team. Poway is coming from dismantling the opposition at the Battle for the Belt tournament. Servite's lone shining moment was watching Tristen Wilson claim a 5 Counties title. As both the school’s battle, Cal Baptist University will take on Cal Poly on the other mat. This will just be a warmup for the Titans, as they must prepare for the inaugural CIF state duals slated to take place at Clovis North High.
