Former Northview wrestler Julia Padilla becomes an All-American at the 2020 WCWC Women’s National Championship

ADRIAN, MI. – Former Northview wrestler Julia Padilla of Emmanuel College became an All-American at the 2020 WCWC Women’s National Championship on Friday afternoon after earning a 13-0 technical fall over Jolynn Harris of Colorado Mesa University.

Competing at 136-pounds, Padilla started the day by earning a technical fall on the day before being eliminated from the championship bracket by Dalia Garibay (Colorado Mesa University) 10-0.

A WCWC participant a year ago, Padilla was triumphant in winning three matches before being eliminated from the blood round and finishing with a 13-16 record on the season. Padilla’s next opponent will be Mia Dow of MacMurray College.

As a wrestler for Northview High and coach Chris Lopez, Padilla was a four-time state qualifier for the Vikings and was a California state finalist in 2018. Padilla comes from a grappling family as her older brother (Chris) was a former wrestler for Oregon State, sister (Tatiana) was a four-time state champion and now is an American professional mixed martial artist who competes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Her other brother (Ricky) is a member of the Fresno State wrestling team.

During the regular season, Padilla was fourth at the East Stroudsburg Open and Missouri Valley College Open while finishing third at the North Central College Invitational.
