Dethrone Wrestling Club Ready to make Some Noise at Super 32

The most prestigious folkstyle tournament in the country will take place this weekend inside Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. Arguably the most prestigious pre-season event in the country, the Super 32 tournament gathers the best wrestlers from throughout the country biding for the opportunity to claim an individual belt, which is awarded to each individual champion.

Started in the mid-1990s in Morehead High School, located in Eden, North Carolina, the pre-season tournament was initiated to help raise money for their wrestling program. The first tournament had less than 100 wrestlers, mostly from Virginia and North Carolina.

In 2008, three-time state champion Alex Cisneros (Selma) became the first Californian to claim an individual belt. Since then, seven other high school wrestlers from California have claimed championship belt. Cade Olivas (St. John Bosco) is the only wrestler to claim four championship belts; three as a middle school wrestler and one in the high school division.

Wrestling starts at 7:00 AM CT on both Saturday and will take place throughout most of the day with action wrapping up on Sunday – which also starts at 7:00 AM.

The Dethrone Wrestling Club, an independent club based out of Fresno California, will be sending a total of 8 wrestlers to Greensboro. Leading the way in the high school division will be two-time state champion Maximo Renteria, ranked # 3 in the country by FloWrestling at 120-pounds. Renteria will look to redeem himself this time around after defaulting from the event last year. It’s no secret Renteria is Tri-Titans favorite to win a championship belt. He will have a tough uphill climb as this weight is stacked with talented wrestlers. Renteria doesn’t run from the tough matches and he wants to become a national champion, but not by seeking smaller opponents. He wants to beat the best and he’s on his way there!

Freshman Cisco Cabrera will make his high school debut by competing in this tournament and make his mark on the national scene at 106-pounds. This Dethrone wrestler is tough and has an impressive wrestling resume with state and national wins. There are many big names in his bracket, but this tournament will give him the opportunity to turn some heads. He placed last season in the middle school division but this year he is on an entirely different level and will be an exciting wrestler to watch.

Joseph Martin is a talented sophomore who is up a few weight classes after having placed fourth as a freshman at the state tournament. He is currently ranked # 14 in the country at 160-pounds by Flowrestling. Martin didn’t have the results he hoped for. Nevertheless, he is back competing in this tournament and will be looking for vengeance. Martin has an excellent shot of reaching the podium and not letting anything or anyone be a roadblock towards achieving his goals.

State runner-up Rocco Contino is wrestling in this event for the first time. Currently ranked # 14 in the country, Contino is looking to continue to build on his high school legacy. Contino has proven he has the tools to get the job done as an entertaining wrestler with big throws. He has impressive wrestling skills and could eventually reach the podium with the right attitude.

Competing in the 8&Under division will be Arto Khachatryan. Khachatryan is tough as nails and he is was a Roller All-Stars candidate. Khachatryan will look to make his debut in this tournament by placing high on the podium. He’s no stranger to the big events, consistently on the attack and doesn’t get rattled by wrestling the big names.

Wresting in the middle school division are Leo Contino at 90-pounds and Jax Frost at 100-pounds. Contino is the younger sibling of Rocco. He is also a beast and it’s guaranteed his opponents will never forget wrestling him. It’s a tough uphill climb for his opponents to score on him.

Frost will have a tough battle as 100-pounds has a lot of talent. Frost has proven both in state and national competition he can score on the best.

Also, from Buchanan High is Kyler Lake. A backup last year at 120-pounds, Lake has a lot of upskills in his wrestling game. He will be someone to watch as he can get the fall in every opponent he faces. He doesn’t run from the competition and will look to garner all accolades in the tournament.
